Whatever these are made of is awesome. It's light, not too slippery, and not too rough. They hold the yarn while still allowing the stitches to slide. The ends are not too pointy and not too dull. I can get them into the loops without fraying the yarn. I guess they are like all of Baby Bear's stuff. They are not too this, and not too that. They are just right.
